You will enjoy snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding right off your beachfront, or you can explore many of the islands other beaches and coves. The Columbus Monument is a mile or so up the road and provides an excellent view of the North tip.

Just 500yds down the beach from the house, is Cape Santa Maria Resort where you can take a night off from cooking and enjoy casual dining or maybe go for Happy Hour at the bar with complimentary conch fritters.

Long Island is also home to Dean’s Blue Hole. Dean’s Blue Hole dips some 663 feet into the ocean floor right off shore. It is said to be the deepest blue hole in the world, and the second largest underwater chamber. Experts who have dived the site report that it is enclosed on three sides by a natural rock amphitheater and on the fourth side by a turquoise lagoon and powder white beach. There is never any swell or waves inside the hole, and visibility is usually between 50-100 feet. The Freediving World Record was set here in April 2007, and it is also site of the International Free Diving Competition every year.

Every year in June, Long Island hosts sailors from across the Bahamas for the Long Island Regatta. The whole island turns out for the festivites.
